The world's largest geyser, Steamboat, was in its window for a possible eruption so I decided to take a snowcoach to Norris Basin and be present should it do so. I got there about 8am and 8 deg F. After watching SB for a while, I concluded (in my vast geyser experience) it wasn't quite ready to go off. Other geysers beckoned so I postholed around the boardwalk in 18-24" of snow all alone. While the day was crystal clear elsewhere, Norris was socked in due to the vapors of the thermal features. It was foggy, eerie, cold, remote and I was out there solo. My imagination kept telling me, "don't do anything stupid!" I only fell down once where geyser runoff had flowed across the boardwalk and been covered with snow.
This scene is from near Vixen Geyser with the watery sun backlighting things.
